Hot Water Over Raised Fists: A Closer Look at Belonging

“Hot Water Over Raised Fists,” uses movement, light, sculptural elements, and site specificity to create a visceral experience of empathy and hope. This excerpt is an adaptation made in response to the creative realities presented by this global pandemic. Out of the full 70min production, we’ve decided to focus this 15min digital dance on the relationship of 2 Black Indigenous women, myself, Jenny Oliver and Sadada Jackson whose ancestral and traditional lands directly connect to the land that Emerson College sits on. Artistically, my work aims to break down the walls that separate disciplines to bring forth a vision of liberation, strength, and resistance through multiple modalities. The narration in this digital dance is inspired by the enduring resilience of native people and my desire to heal, mend and remember relations.
